Chinese New Year in London

Xin Nian Kuai Le! or San Nin Faai Lok! (Happy New Year!) Last weekend my sister came to visit me here in London, and just on the right time because on Sunday the 22 of February there was a big celebration at Trafalgar Square because of the Chinese New Year! My sister and I have both never done anything with Chinese New Year before so we were really excited to see how they celebrate it here in London.

As you might already know, the Chinese New Year is based on the lunar and solar calendars and the new year falls between late January and mid February. Each year is represented by one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and this year it is the year of the sheep!

I love China Town in London, and around Chinese New Year it's even more decorated! At Trafalgar Square (very close to china town) was a big stage with lots of performances, like Chinese dancers, singers and musicians. It was really fun to watch. Even though it was raining most of the day, the atmosphere was really nice. Unfortunately there were lots of commercial stalls around Trafalgar Square but also food stalls and stalls with souvenirs like small paper dragons and Chinese cookies! My fortune cookie said: "Pennies from heaven find their way to your doorstep this year". Hmm wondering what will happen!

Did you do anything with Chinese New Year?
